Aspiration Tech

Syndicate content
Aspiration helps nonprofits and foundations use software tools more effectively and sustainably. We serve as ally, coach, strategist, mentor and facilitator to those trying to make more impactful use of information technology in their social change efforts. We catalyze and strengthen physical communities of nonprofit users and software developers by convening and facilitating innovative technology events. We empower virtual communities of nonprofit users and developers through the Social Source Commons, which maps out available software tools and related information resources. And we provide strategic capacity building services, working with software developers to produce better tools for nonprofits, and with nonprofits to better leverage these tools.

Ushahidi Pirates and Ninjas Summit 2012

Sun, 01/22/2012 - 19:35
Dates: 16 January, 2012 - 19 January, 2012
Holed Up in a Castle on the Indian Ocean

Well, where to begin. Ushahidi, the wonderful open source mobile platform, held their 2012 Pirates and Ninjas Summit in Lamu, Kenya in a castle by the sea. We sure were grateful to be there to facilitate.

The team met earlier than usual this year to get a head start on planning out timelines for 2012 and beyond, including the core platform, Crowdmap, and SwiftRiver.

Serious work was balanced by serious play, including full-contact Marco Polo. We enjoyed the fine cuisine of Ali Samosa in Lamu town, and spent the last night perfecting our dance moves for the event theme song. And we all laptop-squatted before and after the event at the amazing iHub.

We are already looking forward to next year :^)

Talkin' Blackbaud Blues

Wed, 01/18/2012 - 01:59

I’ve been following the online discourse (e.g. NTEN-DISCUSS, Information Systems Forum, Progressive Exchange and Nonprofit SalesForce) around Blackbaud’s announced acquisition of Convio.

As some express optimism and positive spin about that merger, I feel the need to speak up on behalf of the organizations and activists we serve. Please pardon me if I sound a tad strident, these thoughts have been years in the making.
